Who is this class best suited for? Anyone who wants to write articles or essays for magazines, web sites, or newspapers. The material I cover applies to all subjects including travel, parenting, food & wine, health, pets & animals, current affairs, and almost every other topic you can think of.

How does the class work? Instead of logging on to “attend class” at the same time each week, my class offers a flexible alternative. Students receive a lecture by email once a week, in PDF format. Each lecture is 8-10 pages long. You may read it at your convenience and ask as many questions as you like by email during the course of the week. Most questions will be answered the same day you send them.

You’ll also be given an assignment at the end of each lecture, which is due before the start of the next class. Instead of random writing exercises, though, I’ll be asking you to work on actual pieces that you plan to submit to editors, agents or publishers. This way you not only practice writing, but you also get the chance to have your work critiqued and polished by a professional before you send it.

What material will be covered? I’ll discuss both the creative and the business side of writing, since both are equally important to a profitable freelance career. I also share the secrets I’ve learned after 12 years of working in the field. See the course outline for a full list of topics covered in each class.

What if I change my mind? If you decide to withdraw from the course before it begins, you’ll receive a full refund. If you take the first class and decide it’s not for you, I’ll gladly refund 75% of your payment ($75). I’m happy to report that in the four years since this online course began, not one person has asked for a refund after they’ve taken the first class.

What are the instructor’s qualifications? I hold a BA degree in English from Georgia State University, with concentration in Creative Writing. I taught writing classes for Clayton State University and wrote many how-to articles for The Writer magazine. I’ve also sold over 150 articles, essays, and short stories to many different markets.
